Mangaluru, Jun 20: Dr Sudha Kornginnaya, associate professor, Besant Women’s College, has been invited to present a chapter entitled ‘The changing cooperative landscape in the world of work: A study of women empowerment through participatory strategies in India, in a book titled ‘Cooperatives and the World of Work’, in a joint conference organized by International Labour Organisation (ILO) and International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) to be held on June 24 at ILO headquarters in Geneva on the eve of ILO centenary celebration.
The book is edited by CICOPA, ILO & ICA and published by Routledge. Routledge is the world's leading British multinational publisher in the Humanities and Social Sciences founded in 1836.
The chapter highlights the women empowerment initiatives undertaken by SCDCC Bank and Dakshina Kannada Milk Union and explains how these initiatives of the cooperatives helped women to achieve socio-economic empowerment in the Dakshina Kannada district. The success stories of these iconic institutions will find its place and visibility in their data repository at the international level.
Delegations from Governments (Rwanda, Uruguay, South Korea, and Slovenia), UN International Institutions (UNDSA, FAO, and UNDP), cooperative movement and scholars will gather to celebrate this historical event. Only fourteen articles are selected for the book out of 115 articles from 26 countries presented in ILO-ICA conference held in 2015 in Turkey. Dr Sudha’s article is the only one representing India and from the (college section), while the other articles are contributed by the scholars from different Universities of the world.
