Mangaluru, Jun 19: The police personnel attached to Mulky station have succeeded in arresting two inter-state thieves and seizing from their possession assets and valuables worth about Rs 40 lac. However, two thieves managed to flee during the police operation.
The arrested accused persons happen to be Sawad alias Karimani (24), resident of Sadashiva Nagar in Karnad, Mulky, and Mohammed Sinan (19) from Thokur near Haleangady. However, leaders of the gang of thieves, K H Muneer Karnad, living at Dargah Road in Karnad, and Hiyach Karnad have succeeded in evading arrest and are on the run. The police are trying to catch hold of them.
A Toyota Fortuner car which reportedly was stolen from Goa, two Royal Enfield motorbikes, a Tata pickup truck, Bajaj Pulsar motor bike and three high end cell phones were recovered from the thieves. The thieves were using the Tata pickup truck and pulsar motor bike for their thefts, it is learnt.
During their questioning, the police realized that these thieves were involved with several cases of theft reported from Kadike, Santhekatte and other places where houses and Daivasthanas were burgled.
The operation was conducted under the directions of city police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, and guidance of deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Laxmi Ganesh, as well Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Srinivas Gowda. The operation was executed by Mulky police inspectors, Sathish and Siddaraju, and sub-inspector, Sheetal Alagur, with the support of other personnel.
The police have intensified their probe with the hope that several more cases of thefts could get solved. They have also prepared plan of action to catch hold of the thieves who have escaped. It is said that thieves used to move about like normal citizens during the day in the stolen luxury car and indulge in thefts at night so that no one got any inkling of the shady side of their lives.
