Mangaluru, Jun 18: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (MCF), which had shut down production since a month because of water shortage, are relieved now. Both the concerns have begun production process on the basis of improved water supply position.
The first and third units of MRPL had stopped production and the second unit was functional. Both the first and third units have begun production on the basis of some water the company has been getting now.
The third unit of MRPL had suspended production during the third week of April for annual maintenance. The fist unit was shut down on May 10 because of water scarcity. MRPL said that there was no shortage of petrol and diesel as it had produced additional quantum of these items in advance, in anticipation of water problem.
MCF was closed for about 40 days since March for annual maintenance. It had suspended production again from May 14 onward because of shortage of water.
Udupi
With the improved flow of water in River Swarna, water is getting accumulated in Baje dam, increasing water level there to 1.4 feet. The pumping process which had been undertaken from May 7 onward was stopped on Monday. The officials said that they will resume continuous supply of water once the dam overflows.
