Mangaluru: Water position improves - MRPL, MCF resume production

Mangaluru, Jun 18: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (MCF), which had shut down production since a month because of water shortage, are relieved now. Both the concerns have begun production process on the basis of improved water supply position.

The first and third units of MRPL had stopped production and the second unit was functional. Both the first and third units have begun production on the basis of some water the company has been getting now.

The third unit of MRPL had suspended production during the third week of April for annual maintenance. The fist unit was shut down on May 10 because of water scarcity. MRPL said that there was no shortage of petrol and diesel as it had produced additional quantum of these items in advance, in anticipation of water problem.

MCF was closed for about 40 days since March for annual maintenance. It had suspended production again from May 14 onward because of shortage of water.

Udupi

With the improved flow of water in River Swarna, water is getting accumulated in Baje dam, increasing water level there to 1.4 feet. The pumping process which had been undertaken from May 7 onward was stopped on Monday. The officials said that they will resume continuous supply of water once the dam overflows.

    Its an total negligence of government body. Both companies were near to Arabian Sea, so let them install the water desalination unit for them selves. So that there will be no shortage of drinking water for public. First of all they polluting our costal environment & again they are sucking our water for their profit.

    First of all MRPL would not have come here if the administration did not provide water. Secondly all the MRPL discharges either into air or sea can be monitored by general public at any point of time.
    There are several other more dangerous polluting plants like BASF, industries in Baikampady industrial areas for which the protesters never protest.

    MRPL and MCF is the main cause for shortage of water in Mangalore. They should not use this drinking water for their plant. They must make separate arrangements.

    MRPL and MCF should have their own desalination plant using sea water, that may help better provision of drinking water to the city. Moreover both has enough land to plan conservation of rain water to improve water table. Wonder why they are not doing it.

    Our govt officials sleeping no bother of water in mangalore. They just wake up when dam gets dried... If officials gets ransom money under the table.. Why should they worry about water... Terrible people..

    Half of the employee working there are tamilians, even after the factory is in mlore no scope of engineers of mlore to work then why will tamilian worry about water problem as their families are well settled in blore or chennai

    First these tamilian must asked to work in TN why mlore people have to go to other state to work.
