Udupi, Jun 18: Doctors, staff, nurses and students of Kasturba Hospital Manipal on Monday, June 17, staged a silent candle light march against the doctors’ assault incident in West Bengal. Kasturba Hospital in association with Indian Medical Association and Indian Dentists Association staged a silent march in streets of Manipal.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Poorvika, intern doctor, KMC Manipal said, “To protest against the violence against doctors happened recently in West Bengal, we have organized this march. Everybody takes doctors profession as a noble profession. We are here to serve people. We, as doctors, do our best to save patients. But sometimes we too fail. We demand justice from the government. We are not God. There should be some kind of punishment for violence on doctors,” she said.
Another intern student of KMC Manipal said, “This march is organized to show our solidarity. We want the government to have strict laws on working doctors in hospitals. Law should protect hospital staff while they discharge their duties. Even if there is a little hope to save patients, we try to do that. The casual attitude of people towards doctors should change,” he said.
A large number of students, doctors, staffs holding placards saying ‘We are doctors not terrorists’, ‘KMC stands with NRSMCH’ and ‘Dent bleed the hands that heal’, were displayed.
