Karachi, May 11: Suspended Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif has angered a committee investigating his brief detention in Dubai last year by leaving for the United Kingdom before the panel had completed its findings.
Asif, serving a 12-month ban for testing positive for a banned substance during last year's Indian Premier League, spent 19 days in detention last June for the possession of a small quantity of opium.
The Pakistan Cricket Board formed a three-member inquiry committee to determine if Asif had committed a doping offence or violated the player's code of conduct through his detention in the emirate.
"Asif has been told that if he does not attend the next committee hearing on June 1, it will wind up proceedings in his absence and submit recommendations to the board," a PCB spokesman said.
The PCB said in a statement that the committee headed by former Test captain Wasim Bari had sent a letter to Asif which noted that he had left without informing them.
"It has come to our knowledge that you have proceeded to United Kingdom without informing the Board or the Inquiry Committee," the letter said.
The 26-year-old Asif, who has played 11 Tests and 31 One-Day Internationals, was released by the Dubai authorities without criminal charges.
