Udupi, Jun 17: As the rainfall so far has been neither continuous nor torrential, enough water has not been generated to make water in Swarna river to flow towards Baje dam that supplies drinking water to the city. The flow of water began on Saturday from Mundli dam. The water began to progress slowly towards Shirur dam.
In the past, Baje dam used to overflow within a couple of days since the Mundli dam was filled to the brim. But this time this has taken several days. Still, the officials say that pumping process from different spots inside the river will continue till enough water gets stored in Baje dam. The dam now only has 1.7 feet water, which has been the least during the rainy season, the locals said.

At present, pumping is undertaken at Puthige temple, Math, and the stretch between the Math and temple with the help of four pumps.
The people are worried and surprised at the painstakingly slow outflow of water in the river. This time, it took two days for water to reach Shirur from Mundli. The officials say that if the rainfall is heavy, Baje dam may get enough water within a day.
