Udupi: Home guards at Malpe Beach accused of attacking tourists

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 17: It is said that on Sunday June 16 afternoon, home guard personnel posted at Malpe beach chased away tourists who tried to enter the sea at Malpe beach with the help of canes. A video footage showing the people representing the tourists strongly objecting to and condemning this behaviour has been uploaded in the social websites which has since become viral.

As the sea often becomes turbulent during the rainy season, the tourists are warned against venturing into the sea. As a measure of abundant precaution, protective fencing has been erected in the main portion of Malpe beach for about a kilometer and red flags have been put to warn the visitors about the grave danger.

But the tourists overlook these things. One such group had entered the sea from another portion and its members were playing in water. Reportedly, the home guards who arrived there wielded their canes and shooed away the revellers.

The home guards deployed at the beach said that they had warned the tourists to stay away from water but they were not ready to pay heed to this advice. They justified their action, saying that they did not have any other alternative but to use their canes to scare away the tourists in the interests of their own safety.

I have seen earlier in Malpe Beach, when these guards whistle and ask tourists not to go deep into sea, they do not listen.

But now, since there is a strict warning as the waves are dangerous guards would have strictly implementing it.

Canning is required for those who violate and put their life and also of guards ( if they drone guards only have to rescue) in danger.

We Indians love to violate rules. We prefer parking in a No Parking Zone but will hesitate to park in a Parking Zone. Our folks love to Horn in front of Schools and Hospitals where there is signage clearly mentioning No Horn Zone, We love overtaking from the left and littering.

We have the audacity to proudly call ourselves a Superpower.

I dont see anything wrong here. Infact it is in the interest of the tourists themselves. Many of the young tourists coming from outside, dont realise that it just one big swell and a small knockout return wave to destroy their vacation. Good job dear home guards

If tourists have crossed the barriers and are canned there is absolutely no issue. It has become a practice to violate the rules and if something happens then blame government and expect compensation.

Indians, when they travel overseas, dutifully follow rules n regulations, fearing hefty fines, prison terms and deportation !!! Here they have little respect for our laws !!!! Applaud n commend the home guards on duty.. These violators should be thrashed, fined n given to atleast one month rigorous imprisonment !!!!

But there is no other way!
I have seen in Panambur beach, the tourists across the Ghats never understand.
The guards shout at them once or twice to not go too far, but then the idiots don't listen. And then I have seen the guards being very abusive often using the 4-letter words. But I can understand the frustration of the guards, those idiots never understand.

Very good job done by the guards... These so called educated people don't understand the meaning of "danger"? If any untoward incident happens blame and fight for compensation...

This was expected! Drunk tourists love to violate the rules. They should be burried neck deep in the sand and fed salt water!!
Homeguards should not show any laxity and hammer away the interfearing politicians!!
    We salute you, Homeguards.
