Mangaluru, Jun 15: As there is a prohibition on fishing from June 1 to June 31 in the coastal districts, sand mining activity is also banned during this period in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) of the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi.
The publication given in this regard by the senior geologist of the mines and geology department says, "No sand dunes should be cleared during the said period. Sand should not be transported. The country boats that were used to excavate sand, should be kept away from the bank of the water body. The storage of sand in the districts is prohibited.
“If activity of clearing the sand dunes, transporting of sand, storage of sand and the presence of country boats are noticed on the banks of the water body, the same will be confiscated and legal action will be taken against the concerned erring person,” it said.
