Panaji, May 8: Goa police today charge-sheeted state health minister Vishwajeet Rane in local court for threatening a social activist with dire consequences by calling him on his mobile.
Old Goa police who were investigating the case this afternoon filed the chargesheet after the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court directed the investigation officer Gurudas Gawade to file the chargesheet.
The court was hearing contempt petition against Police Inspector Gawade, who earlier had submitted to the court that he will file chargesheet against the minister and later failed to do so.
The court this morning directed the police inspector to submit the chargesheet before the bench gathers again in the evening session.
Old Goa police in their chargesheet filed against the health minister in Judicial Magistrate First class (JMFC) Panaji has charged him under section 506 (II) of Indian Penal Code for threatening social activist Aires Rodrigues.
The chargesheet mentions that during the investigation it was revealed that suspected accused (Vishwajeet Rane) called the complainant (Aires Rodrigues) through mobile phone belonging to Divya Rane. “However, the conversation is not recorded as per the documents provided by the Idea Cellular Limited,” it reads.
In the police complaint, Rodrigues had accused the minister of threatening him. “This is Vishwajit Rane. Be Careful. I will get you shot,” was allegedly threatened by the minister to the social activist.
The minister’s wife Divya Rane is a witness in the case as the cell which was allegedly used to threaten Rodrigues is registered in her name.
