Puttur: Mescom lineman dies of electrocution in Nekkilady

Puttur, Jun 12: In an unfortunate incident, a Mescom lineman died of electrocution at Nekkilady near Uppinangady on Wednesday, June 12.

Mitya Nayak(35) from Davanagere is the deceased person.

The incident happened when supply of electricity was switched on after repairs. He got electric shock when he was putting on power in the transformer.

 

Mitya was employed as lineman in Uppinangady Mescom branch. The line was repaired on June 12. The power was put off near police quarters and he had gone to charge the line after repairs when he was electrocuted.

    Very sad incident.

    Work-environment safety is a much neglected field in India. Whether getting a young son to climb own coconut tree, or getting a worker to do some work on an aircraft engine, one must be prepared to expect an accident.

    But people in India do not work that way. So various AVOIDABLE work-environment accidents happen all the time.

    But then again, our preoccupation is in making India a US$5 trillion economy. Small things escape our attention.

    This is an ongoing affair and we hear about it quite frequently. Nobody cares for the poor lineman, no safety precautions and standard procedures in place. Rupees 2 lakh compensation and life is back to normal. “Chalta he” attitude and it happens only in our digital India.

    what a sad and tragic end ,Self a electrician repaired and was electrocuted means something had gone wrong during his repair.Wrong line ?Didnt he test before got down after repairing.cant understand.heartfelt sympathy to the family,May his soul rest in peace.

    Transformar always must be in safe area away from busy area like homes, bus stand, shops etc. But this electricity board dont consider safety points. Put very near homes where kids play or people wait for bus. Same thing in front if my house, request not considered, God must save us.
