When Riyaz, who came in a fish transport vehicle to Malpe along with some others, a gang with masks had attacked him with swords before escaping. The police who quickly formed three investigation teams, had dispatched one among the teams to Bengaluru. They got information that the accused were hiding in Belur and succeeded in arresting them. The car they used for the above crime was confiscated.
A case registered in Malpe police station in this respect is being investigated by Malpe police station sub-inspector Madhu B E.
The police have come to know that contract killing was planned and contracted to settle old scores stemming out of gram panchayat membership of Riyaz and pre-existing enmity. It is said that two groups, one led by Ismail and other by K Muhammed Riyaz often fought over the issues of the stall at Faranginet and fish sales often. Although both the groups have several members, Riyaz was picked as a target as he was a gram panchayat member. The police, on the basis of suspicion, had served notice to Ismail and during his questioning, he confessed having hired contract killers to eliminate Riyaz.
