Bengaluru, Jun 11: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is under fire for slamming Uttar Pradesh chief minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath. Earlier Rahul had condemned the arrest of journalists. The arrest had taken place over publishing of derogatory comments against Yogi.
Rahul in his tweet stated that the UP CM was being unreasonable and the charges against the journalists should be dropped. His support towards the journalists and the tweet against Yogi met with BJP backlash.
It was interesting to see that the counter attack was neither from Yogi Adityanath nor the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. It was from BJP in Karnataka, where similar cases erupted couple of weeks back.
The BJP in Karnataka shot back through a tweet listing the name of the journalists who faced charges. The prominent names were Santhosh Thammaiah, accused of spewing atrocities against Tipu Sultan and Vishweshwar Bhat who faced wrath because of a news against Kumaraswamy's son.
The tweet also called the Congress president a hypocrite and ridiculed the Congress statements as being one sided. They pointed out on how Congress chose to overlook the faults of their own coalition party only to retain the power in Karnataka.
Following these remarks, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, stood by her brother. She supported him in her tweet where she said, “Uttar Pradesh government is using fear to control journalists, farmers and representatives instead of taking care of people’s issues.”
