Bengaluru: Permission for yoga in Cubbon Park results in demand for namaz

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 11: The fact that some people have been doing yoga exercises at Cubbon Park has given rise to a dispute. Some have opposed practice of yoga inside the park. There has also been a demand to permit offering of namaz inside this park.

Preethi, a yoga exponent, has been conducting free yoga class in the park under the auspices of Cubbon Park Walkers Association. But some Muslims have opposed this private yoga class. They have complained that the Yoga class is held on the lawns of the park and that flexes are exhibited there. They have also sought permission to offer namaz at the park just like yoga.

Umesh, president of the association, said that Muslim brethren have been demanding permission for namaz, pointing out that Yoga class is conducted here although it is free of cost. Yoga trainer, Preethi, said that the class is held free of cost, and that she is not aware why someone opposes it. She said that the class, held between 6 and 8 am daily, is made use of mostly by aged people and those interested in learning Yoga.

Its a ridiculous that people associate yoga with a religion, Where in Namaz is an act of worship which is completely belongs to one religon. The religous worship should never be praticed & tolerated in public places. There are hundreds of mosques running empty in the city, try to occupy them first. Now a days people are misususing article 25.

It's pathetic demand. Those who demand they won't be praying 5 times. Why can't they pray in mosque. Simply creating a issue out of nothing. These jobless people are menace to our country.

A park is for purely recreational use of its citizens it is open to the public only for their recreational use. However, prayer is personal and should be confined to personal buildings and confined space.

Second, if one community begins to pray, soon that park would become hallowed group and eventually there would be claims to build a permanent mosque.

Third, if one religion is allowed to pray then ALL religions should be allowed to pray. Hence, if when one person is praying, the other is clapping and singing and the third is ringing a bell and the forth and fifth are doing something else, this will definitely cause fiction between the groups that will lead to fighting.

Long story short, it’s a bad idea to make a park and place to pray.

Park should not be used for any private or public activity except for vayu vihara for the citizens.
Even Yoga is not required there. Demand for Namaaz in such places is not correct.
Even in Mangalore, on Friday, it is not possible to move around light house hill road during Namaaz time.
It is better for Muslims to build two or three storey masjids and offer namaaz than creating public nuisance. Please take this positively and work towards it. Ameen.

This is outrageous !!! Yoga is a an ancient way of living a healthy, stress free , fulfilled life... We have inherited this glorious traditional science, from our ancestors !!! The entire globe is amazed, at its healing abilities... Millions have included meditation n postures, in their daily life... Parks r for recreation....Pray only in places ordained for worshippers, Definently not in Park's n Street's.... Stop creating bigotry, hatred, enmity, nuisance, in our motherland !!!!!

I disagree with the leaders who want to fish in troubled waters by demanding Namaz also as compensation for Yoga being conducted at Cubbon park. Namaz should be offered at Masjid's or home peacefully without hindering others. agree with yoga being and exercise and should be allowed for all to practice for betterment of the public's health. This act of being provided at a public place should be absolutely free and without any hindrance to other public who also use the park for their benefits. No commercial promotions in way of flexes or advertisements should be allowed. Allowing commercial promotions is not considered as free service as the cost of conducting Yoga is recovered in publicity generated for the entity conducting the program.

I humbly that the leaders requesting Namaz in lieu of Yoga not to create another controversy for political gains and cause danger to harmony and peaceful coexistence of teh citizens of India. I also request the organizers of the Yoga program to remove flexes promoting commercial activities and keep the program purely for social service for betterment of health of general public.

We have had enough hatred and now let the citizens of our wonderful country live in peace and not in pieces.

Hope the organizers of Yoga and the leaders requesting Namaz can read this message and help our country.

    Yoga provides benefits.

However, the readers must note a few points.

    * It is conducted by a private party. Almost certainly a business. Free it may be, but likely used for advertising.
    * The park is for the public. The privately-run yoga classes hamper others' enjoyment of the park.
    * The yoga providers have also put up flexes, promoting supposedly a private business.

So, in my opinion, using public premises for private businesses should ALWAYS be discouraged.

If people jump in support of yoga here without understanding the motives of a private business, it would be a mistake.

I can agee the argument that, Cubbon Park is a public place and some private party conducting Yoga class there. But one can not seek permission to Namaz in public place since someone is conducting Yoga there. As now Yoga is accepted as exercise in world wide it is proven the it is good for well being and all can perform. Namaz is a religious practice and can be done by Muslims only.

Parks should be used for general entertainment which includes walking, playing, relaxing and exercise. It should never be used for any religious activity. Unfortunately, Muslims seems to crawl on every space they can get their hands on by bullying and creating a mess of the place in the name of Namaz. I have seen this openly happening even in far away places like Canada and lot of Western countries. These European and North American countries are now feeling the pain for welcoming them with open arms. Yes, there is exception and very few do blend with adopted cultures.

Yoga is a simply to practice some activity in health problem.why should one mix with religious practices here. Can imagine when one starts with namaj practice,it will not be a place for relax for people but a place for religious practices for a big group.Naturally other religious groups too might want to practice .People please dont start something which will give communal problems and hatred later.Have a clear picture what is going on and healthy thinking.Park is a place for a healthy breath, but not communal clutches.Namaj will be practiced atleast five times a day as for my knowledge. Then one need not think what will be ,if five times Namaj is practiced there. They will never give up or allow other people to step in during their prayers? It wont be a park any more but a Moschee in small form.

Pathetic..Yoga and namaz has no connection at all..Yoga is not limited to a particular religion.
One of the top muslim clerics who is respected all over the world is a regular yoga practioner.
Why you have to create unnecessary issues and interfere into everything .Masjid mein namaz padho ya apne ghar mein namaz padho aur apne khabar ke baare mein socho.

It is intentional and deliberate ,politically motivated without understanding the benefits of yoga. This yoga class is not money oriented or motivated. It is free and giving good health to the people. When they (those who are demanding permission) got their own prayer places, demanding permission for Namaz in Cubban park is a deliberate ploy to create disharmony, disturb harmony among the people and create communal disturbances. That is all, nothing else.Yoga is being practiced worldwide and become very famous across the globe. This is ridiculous and politically motivated. Before initiating such things, one must understand health advantages of Yoga.
