Chennai, Jun 11: Cast aside by their families, over 45 HIV positive kids have finally found a place they can call home. This has been possible because of Solomon Raj. A resident of Chennai, he has been constantly referred to as 'Appa' by the kids. At the shelter he provides, different amenities are given to the residents. It ranges from healthcare to education. The individuals are also educated on the basic working of a computer. The extracurricular activities include training in dance, craftwork and art.
Majority of the kids have already enrolled in schools and colleges. Some are even pursuing their graduation in various streams.
According to Solomon, the inspiration to shelter these kids was his innate desire to adopt. Even after eight years of marriage, he had no child. He then considered adopting an HIV kid. Soon after, he was blessed with a child of his own and the decision to adopt was dropped. Nonetheless, he managed to go ahead and build a 'Shelter Trust'. The trust was for all those abandoned by the society and their families.
Solomon pointed out that the needy are in that position through no fault of their own and the treatment they receive is unfair.
Although, there are financial problems given the medical condition of the kids, Solomon claims that he would always lend a hand for those in need.
