Panaji, Jun 11: Day after the southwest monsoon made its onset over Goa, India meteorological department (IMD) on Monday has forecasted a cyclone along the coastline of the state, within the next 12 to 24 hours.

In its latest forecast, the weather department has stated that the coastline will experience the cyclonic storm with the wind speed reaching 40-50
kmph due to a deep depression in the Arabian Sea. Heavy rainfall warning accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm is issued in isolated parts of the
state.

As per TOI report, IMD director for Goa, KV Padgalwar said “The initial impact will be on South Goa as it started raining there on Monday. The cyclonic storm may pass parallel to Goa’s coastline.”

IMD has flashed a warning on its website about strong winds of 55 kmph. “The cyclonic circulation may move northwestwards by Tuesday,” said IMD scientist S D Sanap.

“We are monitoring the situation. The depression has formed and may move along the coastline. The state authorities have been asked to take precautionary measures and fishermen cautioned against venturing into the sea for the next five days. Those at sea, especially fishermen operating mechanised boats, are advised to return,”Sanap added.
