Mangaluru: Technical snag - Air India passengers stranded for ten hours

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 11: The Air India flight that was to fly to Abu Dhabi from the international airport here on Sunday night was stranded at the airport on account of technical snag. The passengers of the flight were forced to spend ten hours inside the terminal.

The flight was to take off at 8.45 pm on Sunday. But the pilot of the aircraft found technical problems and conveyed information. The engineers who were engaged in repairs till late night finally expressed helplessness for want of equipment needed to repair the aircraft.

It is said that the spare parts concerned are available only in Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram. As the information that repairs could not be undertaken arrived at around midnight, the authorities could not make alternative arrangement or hotel stay for the 112 passengers. The passengers therefore were confined to the airport terminal.

The Air India flight which came here from Dubai at 4.30 am on Monday was to fly back to Dubai at 9.10 am. The timing and route of this flight were changed and passengers bound for Abu Dhabi were accommodated in this flight. The passengers finally took off to Abu Dhabi at 6.30 am. However, those who wanted to reach Abu Dhabi either to report for duty at the office or attend interview etc failed to reach on time. It is learnt that some of the passengers got their tickets cancelled and went home. Some passengers including a pregnant woman also protested at the absence of commercial department staff to listen to the grievances of passengers.

The passengers who were to take the 9.10 am flight to Dubai were informed in advance about the non-availability of the flight. They were sent to Dubai at 2.30 pm after the aircraft which encountered technical problem was repaired. It is reported that the Air India officials met food and water needs of passengers during the time they were here.

Always they say technical problem,as usual.no parts.Just remember whether it is in mangalore or Delhi,in UAE,they say parts should be brought from Delhi or Mumbai. Why the hell they are operating a flight when no parts available at local place.what about these parts or something doesnt function during flight? Are our aviation dept sleeping? It should have been motted to corner long time back .dont play with passengers life.Best is avoid this flight.

I was on the same flight. I remember after i boarded the flight around 8.30 and was scheduled to take off on time, Captain of the flight announce that there is a slight technical error which will be sorted out in few minutes. But till 10.30 nothing happened and the captain announced that we will not be taking off the flight and requested us to move out of the flight to the waiting area where we will be provided the details of hotel arrangements. Once we were out of the flight ground staff of Airindia Express told us to clear the immigration(cancelled stamp). Once we were out of immigration they immediately informed us the technical issue was resolved the the flight is ready to takeoff. We believed the same and we cleared the immigration for the second time. But only after the clearance we came to know that we were fooled by the Airline staff. As far as i believe this entire nakra was don to us to avoid the expenses of hotel accommodation and to avoid the compensation benefit to the passengers.
Now i had to expend my leave for 1 day as LOP, who will compensate for the same. I believe there will be a compensation benefit of $ 250 for each passengers if the flight is delayed by 4 hours and above.
I request the concerned representatives to do something for all the 112 passenger for compensation benefits.

I took the same flight from Mangalore to AUH on June 08th. And believe it or not it's been an old flight shaking throughout making weird noise and a hard landing. Its high time that the authorities replace these flights with new one given the amount of business they get from Managalore.

I remember my experience many years ago. My AI flight was scheduled to depart at 6.00 pm from Riyadh to Bombay, however the flight did not arrive till next day early morning because of some "technical issues". Finally the flight departed at 6.30 am next day morning, delayed by 12 hours! We were stranded at the airport as the boarding passes had already been issued. Just spent whole night by sitting. Because of the stress, I got severe headache and was not able to get a tablet from anyone. Those were the days when cell phones were just introduced and everyone did not have them. We used coins to make calls. I just found a life saving coin in my handbag which I could not use to make call to my family. So I made a quick call to one of my friends who had cell phone and asked him to call my family not to come to airport. This is one of many experiences I had with AI. That was the last AI flight I took. I always used to fly AI because it is our national carrier but if the national carrier does not care for its passengers, why should I care for it?

It is high time to wind off Air India and BSNL.
Need not bother about the staff of AI and BSNL because both did not do justice to their jobs or for the salary which they took home.

With a debt of Rs.58,000 crore, Airindia has no hope of recovering ever again. Government will very soon liquidate it. So enjoy the last few days of AirIndia express.

Nothing to do with any airlines company, its a technical fault it happens , happens all the time in any part of the world on any airlines, its for the passengers own safety pilots do extensive pre check so something bad wouldn't happen in mid air .

When I go to airport to travel by AIR INDIA flight first thing that comes to my mind after immigration check is whether the flight will take off? And during flight first thing that comes to my mind is that whether the flight will land safely.

Taking off and landing on time and safely will be taken care by the airlines. But whats written in your fate has to happen may it be this airline or any other mode of transport or just by being in one place.

Simple solution would be to travel on some other airline. Nobody is forced to travel on this airline. You travel on it because the fare is cheap and then you complain.
