Mangaluru, Jun 11: With the onset of monsoon in the catchment areas of River Netravati, water level in Thumbay dam on which the city is dependent for drinking water needs, has shown a slight improvement.
As per the information provided by the city corporation here, the water level in the dam rose by about six cm on Monday, June 10. The water level in the dam stood at 2.1 metres on Monday morning. Even after undertaking pumping the whole day, the water level stood at 2.16 metres in the evening, which means water has flown into the dam.
As per the rationing norms, water pumping from the dam would be suspended from 6 am on June 12. Sources said that if the level of water in the dam rises by about a metre during the remaining period, the rationing norm may be dropped by the district administration.
Udupi: At the same time, pumping process continued in Swarna river for meeting drinking water needs of this city. Pumping is continuing near Puthige Math and near the temple.
