Mangaluru, Jun 10: The inauguration date of the Thokkottu flyover built on the outskirts of the city has been postponed again. The work of this flyover that is built on national highway 66 is over now. According to the earlier time schedule, this flyover should have been inaugurated on Monday, June 10. However, due to technical difficulties the inauguration stands postponed.
It is learnt that the inaugural date of the flyover will be fixed after the meeting between the people's representatives, district administration and NHAI officials that will take place on June 14.
The work of the Thokkottu flyover that started eight years ago was progressing at a snail's pace due to financial constraints. During the last Lok Sabha elections both Thokkottu and Pumpwell flyovers were the issues that were discussed throughout the campaign. It was alleged that Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel was responsible for the delay of the project. Both Congress and JD (S) even protested on the road on this issue.
Central transport minister Nitin Gadkari had released additional funds to the company that has taken contract with NHAI to complete the Thokkottu flyover on time. Now the work is complete but the date of inauguration needs to be fixed.
Round the clock work was done for three months and also for the fact that rain did not disrupt the work, the project got completed. The painting of protecting wall and road marking work was completed on the evening of Sunday,
