Beltangady, Jun 10: Relating to an attempt to illegally transport cows in a luxury car that was coming from the direction of Kalasa, and death of five of these the cows after the vehicle met with an accident near Mundaje, the authorities have ordered the suspension of a police constable who was manning the check post at Charmadi.
The car in which the cattle as above were being transported in a violent manner had succeeded in escaping from getting noticed by the check post staff. However, the car had gone out of the control of its driver and hence tripped near Mundaje, resulting in the death of five cows. The accused had fled from there.
There had been public outcry against this incident. The police during preliminary investigation found that the car bore a fake registration number. They have been trying to find out the culprits.
Investigating officer, Sandesh P G, who happens to be the police circle inspector of Beltangady, has since submitted report of his findings. On the basis of the report, as the police constable of Dharmasthala station, Manjunath, who was on duty at the check post, was found to be guilty of dereliction of duty, the district superintendent of police has issued order suspending him. Manjunath had recently been posted to Dharmasthala police station.
