Mississauga, May 4: Just before the much awaited summer grips Canada, the ever energetic members of ‘Mangalorean Friendship Series Initiative (MFSI)’ organized a Badminton Doubles Tournament for the first time to all the Badminton game enthusiasts on Saturday, May 2 at the Clarkson Community Center in Mississauga, Canada. The response was overwhelming and the players exhibited a top quality performance with a great sportsman spirit.
The MFSI has done itself proud by hosting its third sports event in a span of seven months since it started these sport events with the community in mind. The spring session Doubles Badminton tournament held at the Clarkson Community Center witnessed a turnout of over 56 doubles teams. A four-hour session of three courts in simultaneous play finished a little into overtime. The ping and swish of the birdie (shuttle-cocks) and racquets was the order of the day.

There were 24 mixed doubles teams, 22 men’s teams, and 10 women’s teams. All combined to make it a highly competitive but fun-filled afternoon of spring session play. While the qualifying rounds ended quickly, the finals each held independently on centre court covered the full distance.
The respective winners were:
Women’s Doubles: Winner - Lydia Sequeira and Erica Dwarakhnath
Runner-up - Nishita D’Mello and Nerissa D’Mello
Men’s Doubles: Winner - Dean Rodrigues and Deepak Iyer
Runner-up - Preston Pereira and Seadon Pereira

Now in Mississauga, the sport events organized by MFSI have become the talk of the town and anxiously awaited events not only by the youth but adults as well.
