Dharwad, Jun 8: The special investigation team (SIT) which is probing the killing of rationalist, Prof M M Kalburgi, has come to the conclusion that the perpetrators of his killing had trained for over 15 days inside the forest area between Mangaluru and Dharmasthala. The sources also said that the suspects were led to the spot inside the forest where some important evidence was found.
It is said that Praveen Chatur, one of the suspects in the case who was arrested from Hubballi on May 31, gave information to the officials of the team that after Ganesh Miskin fired at Kalburgi, both of them rode on a bike to Kittur and then to Mumbai. The bike they used was a stolen one, and a person named Vasudev Suryavamshi had helped in procuring this bike, the investigation has revealed. The bike owner had filed a complaint of theft in Hubballi.

Vasudev reportedly is an accomplice of Amol Kale, believed to be the brain behind this attack. The stolen bike was initially kept in Miskin's house and then the culprits rode on it and reached the residence of Prof Kalburgi at Kalyan Nagar. The special investigation officials would be here for two days for taking the suspects around and recording their statements.
M M Kalburgi, former vice chancellor of Hampi University, who was a well-known scholar and rationalist, had been shot dead during the day at his residence here on August 30, 2015.
