Panaji, Jun 8: Goa Police arrested two men on Friday night, June 7, in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old woman, whose body was found in the forested areas of Sanguem taluka of South Goa.
Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas said that Shailesh Velip (25) and another man (whose identity is not revealed) were arrested after investigations confirmed their role in killing Valancia Fernandes (30).
Valancia’s corpse was found in the forested areas of Rivona village in South Goa on Friday morning, almost 50 kms away from Margao town. The forensic examination had confirmed that she was strangulated to death, he said.
Gawas said that after the preliminary investigation, police zeroed in on her friend Shailesh Velip who was last seen with her on Thursday. “The accused has confessed to his crime and also revealed involvement of another man, who was arrested simultaneously,” the SP said.
Velip took Valancia to his house at Molcornem village in Sanguem taluka on Thursday where he killed her as he was owing her huge sum of money which she was asking to be repaid.
After strangulating her to death, the accused along with his accomplice, transported the body to forested area in nearby village and dumped it there, he said.
