Bengaluru: High court serves notice to DC of DK on lake encroachment issue

Bengaluru, Jun 7: The high court, which conducted the inquiry of the public interest litigation (PIL) that was filed on the accusation of encroachment of the lake at Shimanthoor of Mulky taluk in the district of Dakshina Kannada (DK), served notice to the deputy commissioner and revenue department of the district.

The PIL was filed by Sanjeeva Shetty and others requesting the court to order eviction of the people who have encroached the area surrounding the lake. The PIL said, "Many people have encroached the 3.30 acre land of Madreguthu lake at Shimanthoor of Mulky taluk for personal use. Though, this has been brought to the notice of the concerned tahsildar, no action is being taken. So kindly clear this encroachment."


Deputy Commissioner 

The divisional bench of chief justice P S Dinesh Kumar A S Oka and justice P S Dinesh Kumar, which conducted the inquiry of the petition on Thursday, June 6 served notice to all the respondents including the revenue department, deputy commissioner of the district, sub-divisional officer and Mulky tahsildar.

In addition, the court order also mentioned that this issue is a serious one. So the local tahsildar has to conduct a survey and investigate whether the land around the lake is encroached by private individuals and submit a report to the court.

    Environmentalists, please take a note - the wetland next to the bridge that connects Kavoor with Airport is speedily filled up. Possibility is that the area will be divided into plots and sold to make buildings.

    Please save the area because it belongs to the river that flows under the bridge. In times when it flows to the brim there won't be place to hold the water, resulting with flooding of surrounding low lands.

    Completely non functional government in karnataka...
    Additional holiday every 4 th saturday... so 12 extra holidays per year...
    Atleast give 15days holiday per month and do 15days work honestly...
