Bengaluru, Jun 6: D K Shivakumar, minister for water resources in the coalition government of the state, has time and again proved his leadership capabilities, organizing skills and shrewd political sense in various situations. However, it can be said that he has not got a position in the Congress party according to his capabilities.
Now, the Congress high command is not only ready to offer D K Shivakumar a position that will test his mettle but also it is going to be a challenging post.
The Congress high command is mulling over giving the reigns of the state Congress, which suffered a humiliating defeat in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, to D K Shivakumar. Congress high command has decided to make many changes after the defeat in Lok Sabha elections and in all probability D K Shivakumar, who is known as a mass leader, will be nominated as the president of Karnataka Congress.
It is said that D K Shivakumar will be made the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and his present post of minister of water resources will be given to Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is currently the head of KPCC. However, the working president post will remain with Eshwar Khandre.
D K Shivakumar is known as a brilliant political leader in state. He has got all the acumen to strike a cordial relationship with JD (S) in the present political scenario of the state.
The Congress high command believes that D K Shivakumar has the ability to take political leaders into confidence, pacifying dissidents and taking tough decisions at crucial times. In addition, the high command believes that Shivakumar, who has seen politics of all types, has the strength to organize the party from the grass root level. The hierarchy in the Congress party believes that seniors and juniors in the party listen to Shivakumar. He also has the nick names of 'Tough Politician' and 'Mass Politician' in the state. So he will be able to build the party without any dissidence.
The only flip point in making Shivakumar as the KPCC president is that the Congress leaders of northern Karnataka do not have good rapport with him. Jarkiholi brothers had openly expressed their anguish against him with the high command. Shivakumar is the very reason why Ramesh Jarkiholi kept a distance from the Congress party. In addition to the Jarkiholi brothers, home minister M B Patil also is against D K Shivakumar. Recently, a video in which M B Patil had vented anger against D K Shivakumar with the senior leaders of the party had gone viral on social media.
It needs to be seen whether high command will give the most coveted post of KPCC president to Shivakumar at this crucial juncture, when the party is totally demoralized after the huge defeat in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
