Abu Dhabi: Indian entrepreneur Yousuf Ali gets first Gold Card in UAE

Daijiworld Media Network - Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Jun 3: The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship on Monday, June 3, announced that it had issued its first gold residence card to Indian entrepreneur Yousuf Ali, as per the report by Gulf News.

Yousuf Ali, is the chairman and director of Lulu Group.

Brigadier Saeed Salem Al Shamsi, executive director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs on Monday handed over the gold card to Ali in Abu Dhabi.

Ali becomes the first of 6,800 investors to receive the permanent residency. The first batch of beneficiaries are investors with total investments exceeding Dh100 billion.

Unlike the long-term visa of five to ten years for businessmen and talented individuals, the Gold Card gives permanent residency to the holder.

UAE is the second home for more than 200 nationalities, and now they can make the UAE their permanent home after the introduction of the gold card with the confidence that their generations can stay on.

It is believed that the new permanent visa will help to generate foreign investment and attract exceptional talent in the field of engineering, science and arts.

    Rahul,

UAE is not like UK/US. In this country people worked for two generations, third is looking for jobs but the first generation returned home because his visa is not qualified for renewal after 60 years.

    Citizenship is never available.

All nations want their wealth to be utilized in their own country. UAE is doing exactly that, its not going out of the way by giving Gold Card but its making its own formalities simpler. A normal residency (visa) duration for expatriates in UAE is two years. Whereas, for investors the Gold Card makes the period for lifetime. The process saves time/resources from renewing the visa on alternative years. However, this does not mean that the investor becomes a citizen of UAE - no, he remains a foreigner and should to return to his own country some day.

At the same time, India loses in this gamble because an Indian who invested abroad will not bring his money to India until he resides outside. Whether Modi govt terms this money as BLACK is to be given a consideration.

Dear Rita, Mr. Yusuf Ali migrated to UAE long back when your Congress was in power ....
Same as most of the Indians migrated to Gulf in Congress era only .....
Golden Card is not allotting you citizenship, it is just a residence pass, or an I-card, even though people can go to gulf, work there and reside on working visa ....
