Kundapur, Jun 3: Like-minded priests aimed at appeasing the rain god in an effort to make him grant good rains, offered prayers at Lord Gurunarasimha temple at Saligrama and undertook the 'Parjanya Japa (chanting to invoke blessings of the rain god)' from 7 am to 9 am on Sunday, June 2. The mass chanting was rendered at the Shankhateertha pond of the temple.
Temple Tantri, Vedamurthy Krisha Somayaji, Archak, Vedamurthy Chandrashekhara Adiga, priests, Gundmi Venkataramana Navada, Chidananda Aithal and assistants and member of the temple managing committee, Chandrashekhara Upadhyaya, participated in the chanting of hymns and prayed to the god to grant good rainfall and robust crops.
They began the procedure in the morning after offering fruits to the presiding deity of the temple and seeking His support to the prayers.
The chanting will continue between 7 am and 8.30 am everyday for five days. President the temple managing committee, K Anantapadmanabha Aithal, has requested the priests to take part in the prayers in large numbers in order to strengthen the prayers further.
