Kundapur: Priests begin ‘Parjanya Japa' to appease rain god

Kundapur, Jun 3: Like-minded priests aimed at appeasing the rain god in an effort to make him grant good rains, offered prayers at Lord Gurunarasimha temple at Saligrama and undertook the 'Parjanya Japa (chanting to invoke blessings of the rain god)' from 7 am to 9 am on Sunday, June 2. The mass chanting was rendered at the Shankhateertha pond of the temple.

Temple Tantri, Vedamurthy Krisha Somayaji, Archak, Vedamurthy Chandrashekhara Adiga, priests, Gundmi Venkataramana Navada, Chidananda Aithal and assistants and member of the temple managing committee, Chandrashekhara Upadhyaya, participated in the chanting of hymns and prayed to the god to grant good rainfall and robust crops.

They began the procedure in the morning after offering fruits to the presiding deity of the temple and seeking His support to the prayers.

The chanting will continue between 7 am and 8.30 am everyday for five days. President the temple managing committee, K Anantapadmanabha Aithal, has requested the priests to take part in the prayers in large numbers in order to strengthen the prayers further.

    Some of the worst affected areas are in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.

    In my view, it is time awareness and rejuvenation of the water system is much required along with with the prayers on priorities basis.

    This is the right time for community service together to remove silt from ponds, lakes, wells, and reservoirs which is easy to remove.

    The half the nation is going to have a dry spell in the next year that is not good signs if conservation is not given priorities.

    Prayers are necessary. Whether or not answered by the gods/deities we are praying to, prayers create in us noble intentions and a humble heart to acknowledge not all is in our control. Thanks to all those who are praying for rains.
    But drought is a man-made problem. We must work to set things right. And, we can. Our neighbor state Maharashtra has done some amazing work on watershed development.
    The work done by Paani Foundation and their associate NGOs in making rural Maharashtra water-rich is an on-going example of how innocent rural folks can be enthused into nation-building projects!
    I would volunteer my support to any NGO who would organize such watershed development efforts, whenever I visit India. Thanks!

    It is already forecasted why priest call God for rain. Either they look at forestcast look we pray and rained.

    Next year everyone should start praying January/Feb onwards instead of between mid of may and june, so that we can skip summer and have water everywhere.

    ALSO PLEASE TELL DEVOTEES TO CLEAN WELL/LAKES/PONDS AND KEEP READY FOR WATER HARVESTING.........................SO NEXT YEAR THIS SITUATION DOES NOT FOLLOW.....

    It is a very good thing that prayers are being offered in temples, churches and mosques. Prayers are certainly needed. At the same time, however, we should not lose sight of the fact that God helps those who help themselves. Just by praying, we will not be able to set right the wrongs we have committed. We have plundered nature with our own hands and we need to set that right. We need to grow trees everywhere and make amends for our wrong doings. Once God sees our sincerity, He will certainly bless us with rains. He will bless our efforts. Merely seeking God's intervention without making any efforts is tantamount to someone sitting at home without working and hoping that God will send him a bank remittance for his expenses. It just doesn't happen.

    Yes jossey Sir....very correct... Everyone should participate.. After all rain is for all... Humans, plants, animals earth.. May god hear our prayers and grant us the rain... From early hours started drizzling... Till now going on.. 🙏🙏🙏
