Udupi, Jun 2: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math on Sunday May 2 said that now that Narendra Modi-led NDA government had come to power again with a majority, it should pay attention to protecting cows across the country. He also termed those who slaughter cows for beef as 'demons'.
Addressing a programme on Indian cow breeds at Sri Krishna Math Gopuram, Pejawar Swamiji said, "The government should pay special attention to the protection of cows. The BJP government has strenthened its position by winning the majority in Lok Sabha elections. The BJP does not need any other party's support. Now is the right time for making a firm decision on cow protection. Let Prime Minister Narendra Modi formulate strict laws against illegal cattle transport, cow slaughtering, sale of beef and so on in his first year of governance."
He further said, "Cow is the mother of all those who have consumed its milk. One who has drunk the milk of cow, does he not feel guilty when he kills the cow? One who kills cow is not a human being at all. He is equal to demon. Slaughtering of cows and eating beef is a very heinous act. If not from the point of view of religion, at least protect the cows on humanitarian grounds," urged Pejawar Swamiji.
"Government has taken steps to conserve the species like tigers and lions from becoming extinct. Let the government take steps to save the breed of cow. The condition of cows has become worse than that of tigers and lions. The process of transporting cows and culling them is horrible. Both the cow and bulls have to be protected. If there should be cow, which gives milk, there should be ox and bison also. The indigenous breed needs to be saved from extinction," added Pejawar Swamiji.
Sri Prasannateertha Swamiji said, "Brahmakalashotsava happens every year in different places. Likewise, let us have goshalas in every villages like the temple."
Ishapriya Swamiji of Admar Math said, "If we serve the cattle, we will learn how to respect seniors. Serving the cow will bring lot of transformation in the human being."
More than a hundred variety of Indian cow breeds have been brought here from different goshalas. The whole of Car Street has been transformed into a goshala and products of milk and cow have been displayed in the exhibition.
Sri Vidhyadeeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Paryaya Math, younger Swamiji Sri Vidyarajesvara and Balaji Raghavendracharya were present.
