Bengaluru, Jun 1: A software engineer locked himself in his car, closed all the wind shields and torched himself. The suicide incident happened in an area falling under the jurisdiction of Bagalur police station here.
The deceased, identified as Kaushik Shetty (34), a native of Mangaluru, was reportedly going through depression.
He was working for Northern Network company having its office at Manyata Techpark here. He had married four years back, and leaves behind a two-year-old kid.
Shetty had left home at 12 noon on Thursday for office. Thereafter he neither reached his office nor returned to his home. The family members grew apprehensive, and filed a missing case in Frazertown police station here.
Some people had noticed that a Swift car was stationed at a desolate spot near Hosahalli within Bagalur police staiton limits since Thursday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, they conveyed information to the police. The police from Bagalur station who rushed to the spot, found that a lifeless body was inside the car. They broke open the glass, brought the body outside, and sent the same to hospital.
The Frazertown police had conveyed about missing complaint to all police stations. They also had provided the registration number of the car. Bagalur police found that the car number matched with the complaint filed.
Kaushik had taken two litres of petrol in plastic bottle with him, which he poured on himself before lighting a matchstick inside the car. The seat of the car started to burn and the fire was small in size. As all the doors and windows were closed, he died of suffocation as there was no movement of fresh air. As the fire soon got extinguished on its own, the body was not burnt, the police said.
Incidentally, Kaushik, after getting seated in the car, had searched methods to commit suicide in his mobile phone. This phone was found by his side inside the car.
