Bantwal, May 31: Prasad Poojary (28) from Moodbidri, who has been accused of committing theft at Chowta Indane Gas Agency at Kadegoli, Farangipet in the taluk on January 10, stands arrested by the personnel of the rural police station here. Poojary, who has been accused of being in the habit of stealing and was involved with a number of thefts, was remanded to judicial custody by the court.
It is gathered that Prasad cultivated the habit of stealing when he was very young. In one of the cases, he had been sentenced to three years in prison.
Poojary had rented a room in a lodge at Thokkottu some days back. He had not visited his room since the last four to five days. The lodge owners had conveyed information about this issue to the police. The police, in whose presence the door of the said room was broken open, found cell phone and pen drives. During verification of these things, they came to know that Prasad had been imprisoned in a theft case in the past.
Prasad came back to the room after some days. The lodge people promptly informed the police about his arrival. Police personnel of Kankanady police station took him into custody and questioned him. They came to know that he had committed thefts at Chowta Gas Agency, Toyota showroom at Padil and two mobile phone shops in Mangaluru city in the recent past.
The stolen mobile phone was seized from Prasad's possession. He said that the cash he stole was utilized to repay his loans.
Investigation is now continuing under the guidance of police circle inspector here, Sharanye Gowda.
