Mangaluru, May 29: In connection to the death of a baby who was found in the Netravati river, the police on Wednesday May 29 arrested the baby's father for alleged infanticide.
Laxman Temminala, the baby's father, residing at MFAR camp labour colony at Bolar here, was arrested for allegedly killing his 8-month-old daughter Mounashree.
Both Laxman and his wife Roopa are construction workers hailing from Koppal, and have been staying at MFAR colony for the past 15 days.
A case was registered after the baby was found dead in the Netravati river on May 27. The police who took up the investigation questioned Laxman thoroughly.
Police said that Laxman has admitted to the crime. During interrogation, he said that as he already had two daughters to look after, he felt disappointed when the third child also turned out to be a girl. Out of contempt for the baby girl, he planned to kill her, and accordingly sent his wife out on the pretext of some work. He then strangled the baby and dumped her body into the river.
The arrest operation was conducted on the directions of police commissioner Sandeep Patil, DCPs Hanumantharaya and Laxmi Ganesh, by Pandeshwar police inspector N Kumar Aradhya under the guidance of Mangaluru central sub-divisional ACP Sudheer Hegde. Pandeshwar SI Rajendra B, L Manjula and other police personnel were part of the investigation.
