Bengaluru, May 29: It is said that the Congress high command proposes to relay more on Mallikarjun Kharge when taking decisions relating to party affairs in Karnataka. If this happens, Siddaramaiah and his followers are likely to fight against it. Even in caste calculations, this might adversely affect the party.
Siddaramaiah who was the chief minister, has a strong grip over the party here. The party, which took him into confidence in almost all the issues reportedly has decided to involve Kharge in its decisions.
Siddaramaiah, upon his entry into the Congress, had to fight his way up. As the then Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Kharge, could not bring the party to power, Siddaramaiah became the leader of the opposition. From there he rose in the party. Considering his ability to bring all classes of people together, the party leadership could not ignore his skill and abilities. Therefore, Kharge was asked to enter Lok Sabha.
During this period, Siddaramaiah succeeded in bringing the party to power in the state and became chief minister in 2013. The candidates he suggested normally won the elections and got suitably rewarded. In the last assembly election too most of the candidates suggested by him got elected.
In the meanwhile, Kharge got confined to a limited class of people. Because of this he was also deprived of the post of the chief minister. Siddaramaiah has expressed his desire to become chief minister again. Therefore he will not accept Kharge as the supreme leader in organizational matters and instead try to tighten his grip in the party, sources say.
