Mangaluru, May 29: The government primary and high schools have opened today after summer holidays. The schools have also organized 'Prarambhotsava' as per the government's initiative to create a festive atmosphere in schools on Wednesday May 29.
Heads of several institutions had raised the issue of drinking water shortage in schools. There is no official communication from the government about allowing the children go home after the morning session in view of acute water shortage faced by educational institutions. Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Sasikanth Senthil, has said that water would be provided to them through tankers.

Teachers came to their respective institutions on Tuesday to check facilities and arrange for the next day's festivities. Wherever available, text book distribution is also being undertaken today.
Udupi deputy director of public instruction, Sheshashayana Karinja, said that the schools are likely to face water shortage for the hot lunch programme for the children. He said that the block education officers concerned have been given discretion to take up steps as may be necessary to mitigate this problem.
