Mangaluru, May 29: In connection with the murder of Naveen Bhandary (28) from Barke, Kundottu in Badagayedapadavu at midnight on May 17 in front of a hotel near Daddi Cross, Dhoomachadavu, Mijar, two persons who have been accused of committing this murder, were arrested by the anti rowdy squad of the north division led by assistant commissioner of police, Srinivas Gowda, from Palimar near Padubidri.

The police said that the accused have confessed to their crime. The arrest was made with the involvement of Bajpe police inspector, Parashiva Murthy, under the guidance of deputy police commissioners, Hanumantharaya and P S Laxmi Ganesh as per the orders of the police commissioner, Sandeep Patil.

The arrested accused happen to be Pongu alias Ramesh, son of Chandra Shettigar from Chattaipade House in Badaga Yedapadavu and Nithyananda alias Doobli (41), son of the late Monappa Saphaliga from Madaga in Badaga Yedapadavu village. The arrested accused reportedly told the police that they killed Naveen as he was harassing Nithyananda by not repaying a loan of Rs 20,000 he had borrowed sometime back. The police led the accused to the murder spot in continuation of the investigation.

Naveen had left his scooter near Dhoomachadatu on the night of May 17. From there he had left for Ganjimath in a motor bike. The accused, who noticed that Naveen's scooter, was parked at Daddi Cross, waited for his arrival. When Naveen returned with a friend, Avinash, in a motor bike, both Ramesh and Nithyananda questioned him about his failure to reciprocate their telephone calls.

A fight arose on the issue and Avinash tried to stop it. He succeeded in stopping the assault, it is said. But Ramesh, in a fit of rage, suddenly picked up a cudgel and hit Naveen hard in the head. The stroke was so strong that his brain popped out of his head. Noticing this, the accused fled. Avinash thereafter informed Naveen's family about the incident. Naveen's brother, Chethan and others immediately admitted him into a hospital in the city but by then Naveen had died.

A case relating to the murder had been registered in Bajpe police station.

Murder, accused arrested, gets bail, murder again. The murdered person is dead and gone. The murderer moves freely. Why can't murders be prevented. Whenever there is criminal intimidation, police should keep a watch on the offender, and then prevent a murder.
