Kundapur, May 29: “Politics is not my profession. I do not have to gain anything by inside or outside politics. I have campaigned nonstop for the betterment of society. I have devoted my life for society. There is no selfishness in my service. Nobody can stop my selfless campaign. Politicians have selfishness. I have not seen religion or caste while distributing books, health card or scholarships. The MP should understand it,” said philanthropist and social worker Dr G Shankar.
He was speaking in a function here where he distributed books to around 5100 needy children from all communities on Tuesday, May 28.
Responding to the allegations by MP Shobha Karandlaje that he has resorted to inner politics in the Lok Sabha elections, he said that he had sent requests to the union government that backward Mogaveera category should be included in the group of 38 SC/STs. “But nobody has responded to my request. Having born in poor fishermen family, I have seen the pain and suffering of the society from close distance. Our mother brought us up by selling fish from house to house. I am promoting society because of the urge that I should do something for the society. It is our right to put forth the demands of the society. Rejecting them by the government has been hurtful. I had conducted booth level survey in Kaup Vidhana Sabha elections in 2018. But the MP does not remember it. I will do such survey on directions by MP in the future also, as there will be elections,” he said.
'Those who won in Modi wave should not forget themselves'
“Those who won in Modi wave should not forget themselves. I have indulged in social work for the last 15 years without looking at religion. I have lived as per the proverb that the water of lake should be thrown back to the lake. I have never campaigned for self or political gain. I have not indulged in politics. Those who won in Modi wave should not forget themselves. Try sincerely to implement the demands of the society. I will continue my efforts for society so long as I am alive,” he concluded.
