Now the commissioner of police of Belagavi has confirmed that the case of Shivu Uppar was suicide and not murder by cow smugglers as claimed by Shobha.
B S Lokesh Kumar, commissioner of police of Belagavi confirmed, "It is a case of suicide. We have received the post mortem report. It clearly says suicide by hanging." The commissioner also confirmed that there were no injury marks on the body of Shivu Uppar as per the post mortem report.

"The deceased young man had a quarrel with his family. The family members have given a complaint that the boy had committed suicide. People are unnecessarily spreading false news and creating communal tension. SP of Belagavi has taken suitable action against such people," added Lokesh Kumar.
Sudheer Kumar Reddy, superintendent of police of Belagavi confirmed that two people have been arrested for spreading fake news of the death of Shivu Uppar saying that it was murder and not suicide. They also had specified that the young man was killed by the cow smugglers.
Shobha had also specified in her tweet that the young man was murdered for protecting the cows from the cow smugglers. She had demanded the chief minister of the state to take stern action against the killers. In addition to the message, Shobha had also tweeted the disturbing images of the young man's death on her tweeter account in a bid to get political mileage out of it.
This tweet of Karandlaje was re-tweeted more than 2000 times from the time it was posted on her account. Many had shared the inciting message of Shobha which gave it a communal colour. In addition, this was shared on Facebook on a page of 'Justice for Hindus'. The website of a Hindi daily also published the article stressing the point that the boy was killed by cow smugglers.
