Thiruvananthapuram, May 27: A wedding celebration turned into tragedy in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram after the bride's father died of heart attack while singing on the stage on Saturday May 25.
Vishnuprasad (55), sub-inspector at Karamana police station in Thiruvananthapuram was all set for a big celebration, after fixing his youngest daughter Archa’s wedding to a boy named Vishunuprasad. At the pre-wedding festivities, the emotional father took to the stage to sing 'Raakili Ponmagale' – a song sung by a father for his daughter in the Mammootty-starrer 'Amaram'.
The video currently doing the rounds on social media shows Vishnuprasad singing while the orchestra plays along. Suddenly, he collapses on stage to the shock of onlookers.
The cop was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kollam but was declared brought dead. The doctors said he suffered a cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, close family members decided not to break news to the bride so that the wedding takes place as per schedule. Archa got married on Sunday May 26 at Durgadevi temple in Kollam. When she inquired about her father, she was told he was recuperating in the hospital.
She was informed about his demise on Monday morning on the day of his cremation.
Vishunuprasad was due to retire next year. He is survived by wife Sushma and children Archa, Anuprasad, and Aryaprasad.
Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, took to Twitter to share his condolences. "I deeply condole the death of sub-inspector Vishnuprasad. It is extremely sad to learn that he collapsed while singing on the eve of his daughter’s wedding. I extend my condolences to his family members and relatives," he tweeted.
