Bengaluru, May 27: President of state BJP B S Yeddyurappa clarified on May 26 that there is no question of forming the government with the support of a regional party like JD (S) in the event of the collapse of the present government, the rumours of which are making rounds in the state political circles. Yeddyurappa said that BJP would go to the people for a fresh mandate.
In an interview on Sunday in the city, Yeddyurappa said, "The experience which I have had in the past of power sharing of 20-20 under the rule of present CM Kumaraswamy was horrible. There is no question of BJP forming a government with the support of JD (S). I will not burn my fingers again."
In 2007, BJP were forced to withdraw the support to the JD (S) as the then chief minister Kumaraswamy refused to given up the CM's chair to BJP as per the 20-20 power sharing agreement that had taken place between the two parties.
Yeddyurappa further said that the party is all set to seek fresh mandate from the public of the state. The state BJP chief said that the coalition government has lost the faith of the people of the state after the debacle of the Lok Sabha elections in which they got only two seats out of the 28. "In spite of this, the coalition partners are continuing to rule which is not right," said Yeddyurappa.
"Both Congress and JD (S) have just remained friends in order to hold on to the power. The problems of the people across the state like drought and drinking water scarcity are not addressed by the government," added Yeddyurappa.
Yeddyurappa said that the party has called for a meeting on June 1 to discuss the next course of action.
When questioned about Sumalata joining the party, Yeddyurappa replied that if she is willing to join, we will welcome her. He clarified that Sumalatha has told the party that she will take the decision of joining BJP after discussing the matter with the public of Mandya district.
