Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, May 26: A mob of more than 80 infuriated villagers stormed the campus and vandalized the property and cars of Alliance University at Chandapura near her on May 22 causing tension in the area.

The villagers got angry after a car belonging to a student of the university allegedly killed a motorbike rider of the village.

According to the police, the accident took place on the afternoon of May 21 near the Avadadhenahalli bus stop. Munraju (30), who was an employee of the panchayat office was mowed down by a Mercedes Benz, while he was crossing the road on his bike. The car was supposedly driven rashly by Rajesh (30), driver of a student of Alliance University.

The angry villagers beat the driver of the car black and blue. Meanwhile, some others managed to take the victim Munraju to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

The news of the death of the victim spread like wildfire in the village and infuriated the villagers further. They believe that the driver of the car was inebriated when the accident took place. In addition, the villagers accused the students of the University of endangering the lives of the villagers.

A mob of about 80 villagers stormed into the university campus on the evening of May 22 and smashed the security cabins and vandalized the cars that were parked inside the campus of the university. The security guards, who objected the behaviour of the villagers were manhandled by the mob.

According to the complaint filed by the security officer Manivannan, with the Anekal police the mob threw stones at the security cabin and cars inside the campus. The mob went out from the campus after mouthing obscenity and threatening the students of dire consequences.

A case in this regard is registered by Anekal police and further investigation is on.

If we take justice in our own hands, it gets messy. We loose sight of the truth. I agree that our courts have many faults but what's there to stop an angry mob of trashing you the next time you make a mistake? It's easy to wish this on others.
