Mangaluru, May 24: Police commissioner Sandeep Patil on Friday May 24 thanked the people of Mangaluru for cooperating with the police and other officials to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.
"Thank You to the people of Mlore for cooperating with Mlore Police in ensuring peaceful elections..right from campaign period to poll day to counting day, no untoward incident took place..Looking forward to same cooperation for future challenges..(sic)" he tweeted.
Usually known as a 'communally sensitive' place, Mangaluru saw peaceful elections right from the day the campiagn began, to polling on April 18, and until the day of counting on Thursday May 23. The campaign was intense with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself addressing a rally at Nehru Maidan, and despite a few sporadic attempts to disrupt peace by a handful of miscreants, the election season in Mangaluru passed without any major disturbance.
Earlier in the day, the police commissioner appreciated the staff of the Kadri police for their proactive work in stopping BJP supporters from bursting crackers in the middle of the road on the day of the election results.
