Mangaluru: PPP model - NMPT gets mechanized coal handling facility

Mangaluru, May 23: The mechanized coal handling terminal built at the New Mangalore eport here at a cost of Rs 469.46 crore rupees was inaugurated by Gopal Krishna, shipping secretary in the union government, on Wednesday May 22.

This happens to be a new milestone in the history of New Mangalore Port Trust. With this, the cargo handling capacity of the port gets substantially increased. Gopal Krishna expressed the hope that with this, the income of the port trust also will register improvement in its revenues.

This terminal has been built in the model of public-private partnership. With this, the cargo handling capacity of the port will reach 6.73 million metric tonnes, he added. "The new terminal will contribute to the progress of the coastal area here. The government has confidence in the usefulness of private-public partnership and is committed to achieve upgradation of ports," he added. He also expressed his appreciation for the achievements of New Mangalore Port.

Chairperson of New Mangalore Port Trust, M Beena, and chief executive director of Chettinad Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt Ltd, M A M R Muttaiah, were present. Chettinad Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt Ltd has executed this project.
