Bengaluru, May 23: D Roopa Moudgil, currently working as director general of police, railways (Bangalore region), through a tweet, has said that electronic voting machines (EVM) cannot be tampered with. "All the officers working in All India service and state service know this fact as they have learnt by experience when discharging duties as election officers. None of them will allow hacking to take place and endanger their careers. At the same time, do you think it is possible to buy all the officials?" she countered through her tweet, apparently referring to suspicions being expressed in various quarters about the reliability of EVMs.
While many have liked Roopa's tweet and retweeted it, some have wondered why she is trying to poke her nose into this issue. In reply, Roopa said that her tweet should not be viewed from political angle.
Actually, Roopa had shared an article which appeared in a web publication along with her first tweet in which opinion of IAS officer, Bhavesh Mishra, a 2015 batch officer, by way of attachment. She has been clarifying various points raised by the readers. Some have told her that she is wrong in expressing her opinion in the matter being a government servant.
It may be recalled that Roopa had shot to fame after she reported irregularities in Parappana Agrahara prison including extension of facilities and luxury to certain political personalities with the tacit involvement of top officials illegally.
