Mangaluru, May 22: Police personnel of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Tuesday May 21, took into custody two persons who demanded bribe of Rs 10,000 for handing over cheque representing subsidy amount sanctioned by the government.
The arrested persons are Sridhar Bhandary, district manager of Minorities Development Corporation, and clerk, Rahil. They were produced in the court whereupon the court remanded them to 15 days judicial custody, ACB officials stated.
Sharat Pinto had applied to Minorities Development Corporation for running an industry. He had been sanctioned subsidy amount of one lac rupees. Sridhar Bhandary reportedly demanded bribe of Rs 10,000 for the cheque to be handed over to him. Sharat Pinto said he was not agreeable as the amount demanded was on a higher side. After some discussions, he had agreed to pay Rs 7,000 to Bhandary, it is reported. Pinto in the meanwhile, reported the matter to ACB officials.
ACB officials conducted the raid on Tuesday when the bribe amount was being handed over. The said amount of Rs 7,000 was found in the table drawer of Bhadnary. Rahil, who was instrumental in negotiating the deal, was also arrested and booked.
The raid was conducted by deputy superintendent of police, Manjunath, inspectors, Yogeesh Kumar Mohan Kottary and Satish BS, under the guidance of ACB superintendent of police, Uma Prashanth.
