Bengaluru, May 22: Roshan Baig's verbal tirade against the Congress leaders at a press conference he held at his residence on Tuesday May 21 in which he termed Siddaramaiah as an arrogant leader and party's Karnataka in-charge, K C Venugopal, as a buffoon who does not know anything, were met with angry reactions. Baig had called upon former chief minister and chairman of coalition government's coordination committee, Siddaramaiah, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, to resign if the party fares badly in the Lok Sabha election. Noting that two to three Muslim leaders were normally issued tickets by the party for parliamentary election, he noted that only one Muslim was considered this time by the party. He also said that he would not hesitate to take an appropriate
decision at an opportune moment.
JD(S) state president, H Vishwanath, backed Baig, by saying that what he has said is nothing but truth. He thanked Baig for coming out with truth at last. BJP leader and former deputy chief minister, R Ashok, added fuel to the fire by claiming that this is just a teaser and two or three more cinemas are expected to be staged soon.
Minister, Zameer Ahmed Khan, ridiculed Baig by saying that the latter found Congress to be good when he was in positions of power and enjoying. He said that Baig is free to go wherever he wants, and questioned how he can patronise BJP, which has said that it does not need the minority support.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, felt that the statement coming from Baig's mouth based on exit poll is like preparing to make kebab in expectation of the chicken being born. He said that a mature and honest politician who is loyal to the party cannot make such statements. "I am not shaken by what he has said. He enjoyed power when in the party, and we cannot block people who want to leave the party," he commented.
Gundu Rao said that the party had issued ticket to Rizwan, Zameer was made the minister, and Nasir Hussain was made Rajy Sabha member. C M Ibrahim has been given membership of legislative council and K J George has been made a minister. "Does Baig think we did injustice to minorities by giving these posts?" he quipped.
It is said that Baig has the tacit support of several Congress leaders who are frustrated with Siddaramaiah and Gundu Rao.It is learnt that they plan to oust Dinesh Gundu Rao from the post of KPCC president at any cost.
