Belagavi: Former MLA, MES leader Sambhaji Patil passes away

Belagavi, May 18: Former MLA who represented the city (south) constituency and Maharashtra Ekikarana Samithi (MES) leader Sambhaji Patil (68) is no more.

Patil, who was suffering from health-related complications since sometime, had been admitted into a private hospital. Without responding to treatments, Patil breathed his last at 8.50 pm on Friday May 17.

Patil had been elected as the mayor of the city thrice. He had represented the city (south) assembly constituency once.

He had fought election from the above constituency in the assembly election held in 2013 as an independent candidate supported by MES, and registered success. He had organized 'Mahamelava' on behalf of MES during the period the assembly session of Karnataka was in progress here, and earned the ire of pro-Kannada organizations.

Patil's family sources said that his funeral would be performed on Saturday May 18.
