Tumakuru, May 18: A young advocate, Ramesh Nayak, has filed an application in the JMFC court here, seeking to register case against Dakshina Kannada member of parliament (MP), Nalin Kumar Kateel. He wants to sue the MP for certain tweet made by the latter.
In his Twitter account, Nalin had compared former Prime Minister, the late Rajiv Gandhi, to Nathuram Godse, and terrorist, Azmal Kasab. In a tweet, he had pointed out that Godse had murdered only one person, while Kasab had accounted for 72 lives. He had accused Rajiv Gandhi of causing deaths of 17,000 people. He had wondered who among them could be dubbed the most draconian murderer.
Ramesh Nayak has approached the court, duly providing copies of the said tweet made by Nalin, and reports of a visual media and an English print media, while seeking permission to file suit against Kateel. He has asked the court to direct Kyatsandra police station in the city to register first information report against the said MP and investigate the same.
The BJP has condemned the tweet by Nalin Kumar, as well as another pro-Godse tweet by union minister Anant Kumar Hegde. Both have been issued show-causes notices by BJP national president Amit Shah, and state president B S Yeddyurappa too termed them 'unforgivable'. Both Nalin and Hegde apologised and deleted the tweets, with the latter claiming that his Twitter account had been 'hacked'. Their tweets came the same day BJP's Bhopal candidate Pragya Singh Thakur termed Godse a 'patriot', which prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond that he would never forgive her for the statement.
