Kundapur, May 17: One person died and two others were hospitalised after they were washed away while swimming at Kome beach in Tekkatte here on Friday May 17.
While Sujith (23) lost his life, Sukruth (30) and Akshay (23) were rescued by the locals and admitted to hospital.
It is learnt that a 15-member group including the above three had from Bengaluru to attend a marriage function in Manjeshwar, Kasargod. After attending the marriage, they went to a resort at Kome here.
Sujith, Sukruth and Akshay later went to the beach for a swim. The locals warned them against getting into the water due to strong waves, but the three ignored their warning, sources said.
The three of them got washed away by the waves. The locals rushed to their rescue but only Sukruth and Akshay could be saved. They have been admitted to a hospital in Kundapur, and the condition of one of them is serious, it is learnt.
Locals Mahabala Bangera, Santosh, Ganesh Poojary, Nagaraj, Sandeep, Sampath and Raghavendra were part of the rescue efforts.
