Kundapur, May 17: A man, who was facing a critical situation due to the continued sluggish fishing season, committed suicide on Wednesday May 15. He has been identified as Subraya Kharvi (40), a resident of Kanchugodu in Hosadu village near Gangolli.
It is gathered that Kharvi had borrowed heavily from different financial institutions and societies. He was however, facing financial distress as income from fishing activity had gone down substantially because of poor catches. In view of the fact that he was going through depression and suffering from ill health, he had been admitted into a private hospital in the town for treatment. He was treated and discharged from the hospital at 3 pm on May 15 and his family members had escorted him home.
However, later in the day, he hanged himself from the wooden beams of the tiled roof of his home. A case relating to his death has been registered in Gangolli police station.
