Kundapur: Sluggish fishing activity – Fisherman commits suicide

Kundapur, May 17: A man, who was facing a critical situation due to the continued sluggish fishing season, committed suicide on Wednesday May 15. He has been identified as Subraya Kharvi (40), a resident of Kanchugodu in Hosadu village near Gangolli.

It is gathered that Kharvi had borrowed heavily from different financial institutions and societies. He was however, facing financial distress as income from fishing activity had gone down substantially because of poor catches. In view of the fact that he was going through depression and suffering from ill health, he had been admitted into a private hospital in the town for treatment. He was treated and discharged from the hospital at 3 pm on May 15 and his family members had escorted him home.

However, later in the day, he hanged himself from the wooden beams of the tiled roof of his home. A case relating to his death has been registered in Gangolli police station.

    Many, many people have committed suicide due to this sluggish government since last four plus years. Reasons are many as many people in every walks of life have no choice but end their precious lives. I hope this new government will bring prosperity to all but not only to the rich who are cause for all this.

    Nobody bothered about his death because he is just fisherman. If it was a farmer all whole world would have cried and asked for compensation
