Daijiworld Media Network - Dharwad (MS)

Dharwad, May 16: In a barbaric incident that occurred in the Shalavadi village of Navalagunda taluk of the district, a man killed his estranged wife after asking her to come back to his house on the pretext of forgetting all the differences and living peacefully again.

The man who has killed his wife is Vishwanatha Chigari. His wife Laxmi is the victim. Laxmi's mother Devakka was also seriously injured in the incident.

Vishwanath Chigari and Laxmi got married in 2010. Laxmi used to live at her parents' house most of the time. Due to this reason the couple used to have frequent fights. In addition, Vishwanath also had a suspicion on Laxmi that she has an affair with another person of her village.

Vishwanth had been to his in-laws' house recently. During this time his wife said that she was going towards the nearby pond in order to bring firewood. Vishwanath, who had suspicion on Laxmi of having affair with another man, followed her without her knowledge. He saw Laxmi have physical intimacy with her lover in a nearby bush. Vishwanath captured the whole act on his mobile from a distance. Vishwanath attacked Laxmi when she returned home after collecting the firewood. Both of them went their own ways and even proceeded for divorce. Because of this Laxmi was residing in her parents' house since the time of the attack.

On Wednesday, Vishwanath had gone to his in-laws' place again and requested Laxmi to return to him and promised that he will forget whatever has happened and live together happily. Devakka, mother of Laxmi also accompanied her to Vishwanath's house as she has some doubt on the behaviour of Vishwanath.

On the night of Wednesday at around 10.30 pm, Laxmi was sleeping after having dinner. Vishwanath brought a butcher's knife and slashed Laxmi's eyes. Laxmi, who was seriously injured ran out of the house. Vishwanth followed her and hit her on the neck and hands and also attacked Devakka who came to the rescue of her daughter.

The neighbours who heard the chaos rushed to the spot and called the ambulance and the police. Both Laxmi and Devakka were taken to the KIMS hospital in Hubballi. However, Laxmi succumbed to her injuries on the way. Devakka is undergoing treatment now.

A case against Vishwanath is registered in this regard at Navalagunda police station. He has been arrested and investigation is on.

When one reads the headline, it seems that the husband is the culprit. However, if you read the full story there is no fault of the husband. The only mistake what he has done is of killing his wife.
He should have either abandoned her like ..... or divorced. Now for no reason he has to sit in jail.

abdul, you comments make no logic. he should be punished and it is his fault for killing his wife. indian IPC is higher than any religious laws, mind it. laws doesn't need to know why he did it but killing is criminal offence so he will be punished.

Very sad to see people justifying the act of killing for having illicit affair. There are alot of reasons why women or men choose to have extra marital affair, for saying ,many men or women are not so bothered about the needs of the partner, it may be sexual or psychological.Hence judging from one side is wrong.Suppose, If a man is not giving much attenstion or satifying biological or psychological needs his partner, how can he expect her to be loyal to him.
