Mangaluru, May 16: Linus Moras, senior writer and organizer of various Konkani activities, released his first ever novel ‘Dhuvri’ in the form of book at the age of 64, on Wednesday, May 15 at Maurishka Palace Rooftop in the city.
‘Dhuvri’ is the eighth literary work published by Srujana Publications owned by Vitori Karkal.
Philanthropist and NRI entrepreneur James Mendonca graced the event as chief guest and released the book. Walter Nandalike, founder, Daijiworld Media group, Melvyn Rodrigues, Konkani poet and Central Sahitya Academy award winner, Mark D’Souza, Walter Peris, Jacintha Moras and Vitori Karkal were present on the dais.
Releasing the book, James Mendonca recalled the Konkani mission of Linus in UAE and said “Linus and his wife Jacintha were the main pillars of Mangalore Konkans, which is premier association of Konkani speaking people in Dubai, in its earlier days. Linus served this association in the capacity of vice-president, secretary and treasurer. When egendary Wilfy Rebimbus passed away, I was the president of Mangalore Konkans. Linus advised me to do something in the name of late Wilfy. So we decided to give an award for the achiever of music world in the name of Wilfy through Sandesha Academy,”
“Linus was a regular writer in the Konkani world. He had kept his writing practice throughout his life. As a result of this, he could release his novel at the age of 64. It is great achievement in his life and for the Konkani literature. I congratulate Linus.”
In his introductory speech poet Melwyn Rodrigues said, “Name and fame always show a lively existence of a person. In our childhood, we saw Linus as a writer who was known for sports related articles. But by releasing a novel at the age of 64, he made a benchmark in his life. Before completing the novel, he fell sick and his health condition was bad. But Vitori Karkal, a true Konkani worker, completed the novel and published under the banner of his publication. This is joyful and sentimental moment for Linus,”
“In 1932, Lora Angeles published her novel ‘Little house in the big woods’ at the age of 64. Later the novel became very popular and many versions of it got published. Wish ‘Dhuvri’ also sees many versions.” Melvyn added.
In his speech, Walter Nandalike hailed Linus and his wife Jacintha Moras for their Konkani activities in Dubai years ago. He said “Both are known for good leadership and generous towards the needy. Daiji Dubai, UAE’s premier association for Konkani writers, will always remember Linus because during the earlier days of its existence, he supported the association in many ways. We used his music school ‘Golden Talents’ regularly for meetings and other gatherings. It is great to know today that, beating illness, he has released his first book and it is appreciable.”
Mark D’Souza, Uncle of Linus and Walter Peris, a good friend of Linus, recalled some childhood memories with Linus.
Linus Moras and Jacintha Moras thanked Srujana Publication, guests, well wishers and the gathering .
Vitori Karkal compered the event.
