Mangaluru: Traffic violators to face 3-month suspension of licence, warn police

Mangaluru, May 15: The Dakshina Kannada police department has decided to take stringent measures to ensure that the rules and regulations regarding traffic and road safety are followed strictly.

In this regard, the DK police will be implementing the directions of the road safety committee of Supreme Court regarding suspension of driving licenses of those who violate traffic rules.

In a press release, district SP stated that the decision has been taken to prevent increasing traffic violations.

Driving licenses will be suspended for not less than three months. Action will be taken under Motor Vehicles Act 1988 section 19 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 rule 21 (both relating to suspension of licence by licencing authority). It has been decided to submit a report to the regional transport officer to mandatorily keep driving licenses under suspension in cases of violation.

The district SP has stated that action will be taken against driving at excessive speeds, transporting goods heavier than the permitted weight on goods vehicles, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speaking on mobile phones while driving, jumping the red signal light and other such violations.

    Particularly the buses should be monitored. They are the highest traffic rules offenders. Most of them are arrogant and misbehave when questioned about the flouting of traffic regulations. Most of the drivers use mobile phones while driving caring a hoot for the passenger's objections.

    All these are agreed. But when the roads will be made scientific? No one is talking about it. There are no standards to construct roads/footpaths/pedestrian crossing, etc. No one knows what does the colored lines on road represent and how they should be respected. I feel they should focus on this also.

    Please take care of Senior citizens in the bus. Allow them to use senior citizens seat. If drivers are not taking care of senior citizens put heavy fine on bus

    This is purely money making business. If TP are serious of safe roads, then it should start of local city busses who ply within the city limits dangerously. No value for human life for bus operators. Secondly enough parking lots to be built within the city limits and not harass the owner of vehicle for illegal parking. Strict meter rule should be imposed on Auto driver's as well. Nanthoor junction which is labelled as death trap circle need to be manged technically based on it's seriousness. If we don't have solution, we can take expert's advice on how to manage the Nanthoor cross. Simply stopping two wheelers for helmet or other reason will not bring safe roads if all the above are cordoned off.

    Please stop bribe from Private Bus Owners and start KSRTC buses all over twin districts.
    We are paying compensation from our hard earned income to compensate for losses of KSRTC but we don't have the facility of KSRTC buses is DK and Udupi.
    Since decades national highway and public road of the districts considered has the properties of private bus owners.
    Please start KSRTC buses to provide bunch of facilities available in KSRTC for all class of people and even during accidents.

    According to police violators are those who caught by police.

    1. Vehicles come from wrong side

    2. Vehicles comes from wrong side in circles and they will not be seen till they reach to touch vehicle coming from opposite side who are right in their path.
    Many vehicles will be parked on the cross road side and vehicles entering the main road will not see the vehicle coming on the road. Parked vehicle will be obstacle.

    3. Car drivers open door suddenly and I saw many accidents especially bike drivers.
    I too hit and wounded once when a car driver suddenly opened the door.

    4.Car drivers park the vehicle on the road and suddenly they come backward and hit the vehicle .

    5.Bus drivers will not care senior citizens while getting down from the bus. Many senior citizens wounded and died. Case will in the court. After death of senior citizens who will fight the case.

    money & influence sorts out non-suspension of licence. how many hit & run cases traffic+ police have not sorted out & scott free from da money & influence. i have no trust in corrupt people. don't ask me who are da corrupts. top 2 bottom corrupts. 1nce licence is suspended den again 2 revoke or 2 make new licence u have 2 corrupt traffic+ police 2 make it new or to revoke.

    Good move. Hope it is practically executed.
    Every developed country has this rule. Violations which are of safety concern to life of driver or pedestrians has to be treated only by cancellation of license for few months. There should not be any escape by bribing or by using "high level influence".
    In USA, Europe, Middle East etc., parking offenses are treated by fine. But safety violations are necessarily treated by suspension of license. Repeated violation is treated with permanent cancellation of license and the person cannot apply for new license for at least 3 years.
    There are two types of sign boards. Those with red colour border (speed limits, no parking, no U-turn, No Entry, no overtaking, etc. etc.) are mandatory. Those with blue border are advisory (for example, School zone, Sharp turn ahead, Height limit at bridge, gradient ahead, curved road, narrow culvert, crossing ahead, etc. etc.

    Public of Mangagala Ooru does not have any guts. The kali pili traffic policemen from north karnataka are speaking like tigers in this city. They do not have the guts to speak in this manner to people in places like Hassan, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysuru or even Bengaluru
    People of our city should unite, especially two wheeler riders. The police are taking two wheeler riders for a ride.
    They do not have the guts to tackle the menace of city bus lobby as they pay them hafta.
    But no use talking or even writing in this forum as the people of athi buddivanthara jilles are basically pukkalu.

    Great Job by Traffic Police Department. Thanks to Commissioner of Police Mr Patil and also Thanks to DCP Mr Shetty and also grateful to all Traffic Police Members of Mangalore.     Atleast every week we have some new rules very nice to read only, because early morning in front of the police vans most of the 2 wheeler's are driven without wearing a helmet or else by young students who go for coaching classes and who do not have a driving licence. So the rules are applicable only after the office hours start.

    In my opinion, a country is civilised only when its people use public spaces in a courteous and civilised manner.

    Indians do not know yet how to use public spaces in a courteous and civilised manner.

    On social meedia.
    schools..colleges..etc.'
    Let the Police department be strict like in America: Japan: Europe..
    Meanwhile Traffic police should train Students...
    Maintain the best Discipline.
    Let every road be Lit..
    Well drawn white..yellow Lines.
    Paint the Zebra crossings.
    Speed breakers should be painted and highlighted.
    Let the roads be clean..
    set up litter bins.
    no spitting..Littering..
    Let there be public toilets..
    Bus stands.etc.

    Abdulla, India, one most important point you ignored, Teaffic police are to be trained properly. Or a new bunch of well trained traffic officers to be appointed.
    For violators Penalty should be not less than 6 months suspension of licence but also Rs10,000/- for the first attempt.

    It's a joke! Can you stop private bus drivers hovering at high speed destined to kill innocent pedestrians or bike drivers?
    Can you stop people honking?
    SP or police officers if you can't stop these then what you are really want to do with this new law. Stop innocent bike drivers and harass them ?
    We public open challenge authorities to take strict action against private bus drivers who are killing machines on road. Please do this first and save life.
