Mangaluru, May 15: The Dakshina Kannada police department has decided to take stringent measures to ensure that the rules and regulations regarding traffic and road safety are followed strictly.
In this regard, the DK police will be implementing the directions of the road safety committee of Supreme Court regarding suspension of driving licenses of those who violate traffic rules.
In a press release, district SP stated that the decision has been taken to prevent increasing traffic violations.

Driving licenses will be suspended for not less than three months. Action will be taken under Motor Vehicles Act 1988 section 19 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989 rule 21 (both relating to suspension of licence by licencing authority). It has been decided to submit a report to the regional transport officer to mandatorily keep driving licenses under suspension in cases of violation.
The district SP has stated that action will be taken against driving at excessive speeds, transporting goods heavier than the permitted weight on goods vehicles, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speaking on mobile phones while driving, jumping the red signal light and other such violations.
